Build an audience of fans who hang on your every word

Advertising can be expensive when done wrong, and good marketing can take a long time.

A great way to increase your advertising's chances of success is to determine who is most likely to buy from you. These people are what we call your target audience. The more targeted your audience is, the more likely they are to purchase your products.

Here are some simple tips to help you locate and grow your audience through social media and email.


The first thing any good targeting campaign should do is identify who your potential customers are by creating a target audience profile. To do this, you need to look at the interests, age and location of your current customers. You can go deeper into identifying your target customers if you wish, but these 3 criteria are already a very good starting point. This will help you show what type of person your ideal customer is so you can focus your campaign on that particular group.


Just like advertising, content creation can be a very expensive task. You need to make sure your content is relevant to your audience so that they find real value in it and want to share it with their friends. Creating cat memes for dog lovers can be a great way to generate a lot of traffic, but chances are none of those visitors will buy your new ebook on teaching dogs to sing (yes, yes , it exists !). The cat lover traffic you've created is filled with people without dogs and your product just isn't relevant to them. The content you invested in is effectively wasted. Truly create with your market in mind.


Social media allows you to engage with your audience by constantly providing relevant and interesting content. They allow you to develop a close relationship with your fans. This builds trust and allows you to promote your products to a receptive and well-targeted audience. Make sure your customers can find you and your business on all major platforms. This is the place to show them what makes your business special and encourage them to connect with you regularly.


It can be difficult to identify exactly who your target audience is, but it can be even more difficult to locate that audience on the web and show them that you are worth their time. There is only so much room on a person's Facebook news feed for your message: as quickly posted, as quickly forgotten….

But with email, every message you send lands in your audience's inbox (spam filters aside). Each person must decide, every time they receive an email from you, whether to read it or delete it. If you can make your content engaging enough, there's a good chance you'll quickly build a loyal audience who loves sharing your information.

Building your list can be difficult at first. Try to create incentives to get people to sign up. A call to action like “Sign up for my free e-book” is a great way to start collecting those email addresses and kickstart your marketing. Once you have a few subscribers, ask them to forward your valuable emails to their friends.

Remember, once you have a great list of fans and subscribers just waiting to receive your content, you need to nurture that list. Consistently sending high-quality, relevant content is the best way to maintain the trust and loyalty of your hard-earned audience.
